Grayson Perry, Jeff Koons, Antony Gormley, Sarah Lucas and Not Vital are among the distinguished artists who have created new works for Sotheby’s Contemporary Art charity auction, which will take place on October 4 during Frieze London. Profits from the sale will be donated to The Aortic Centre Trust, a national charity launched in 2016 that is investing in the treatment of diseases relating to the aorta, the body’s largest artery – sometimes described as “the forgotten organ”. There are around 5,000 deaths caused by diseases of the aorta in the UK each year, which, if treated early enough, would almost all be preventable. The Trust will use the funds raised to help create seven specialist centres of expertise and education with state-of-the-art operating and screening equipment.
