Since 2005, Elvis & Kresse has been creating men’s, women’s and home accessories from recycled firefighting hoses, with 50 per cent of the profits going to The Fire Fighters Charity. Now it has received a grant from the Burberry Foundation to transform leather offcuts from the production of Burberry products into a range of accessories and homewares.

There’s a neat leather doorstop cube (£60), but the showstopper is a rug that comes in three colours (black, caramel and shiraz) and three sizes (58cm x 88cm, £195; 119cm x 178cm, £780; 146cm x 242cm, £1,335) or can be customised using a special menu on the Elvis & Kresse website. Half of the profits from the leather products will be donated to projects supporting the use of renewable energy; the company will reinvest the other half into expanding its own efforts to reduce and reuse waste.
