Founded in Manchester, Vermont, Orvis has been selling high‑end fishing, hunting and sporting gear for over 150 years. The brand, whose flagship UK shop is on Regent Street, has also, since 1976, been fêted for its super-soft, hardwearing dog beds (David Beckham’s and Gordon Ramsay’s cocker spaniels are both fans). Its state-of-the-art model, the ToughChew, is made of two layers of super-strength nylon, and comes with the guarantee that if a pooch succeeds in gnawing through it, the bed will be replaced or refunded. Prices for the ToughChew start at £119 (£10 extra to have a bed monogrammed) and five per cent of all pre-tax profits go to a range of charities, including Pets as Therapy, Casting for Recovery (which takes women battling breast cancer on fishing retreats), Fishing for Heroes (teaching fishing to armed forces veterans) and the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust.
