My style icon is Coco Chanel. She is so current. You can dress today like she did in the 1920s, in knitted trousers and a jacket, in total comfort.
My favourite room in my house is my bedroom in my house in Brussels. It’s large and peaceful – you can’t hear any traffic – and has two huge windows overlooking a private garden that backs on to the Bois de la Cambre. I’m in my cocoon when I’m in there.
The best gift I’ve received recently is a pair of Delfina Delettrez earrings from my husband. They are gold three-quarter hoops set with diamonds and rubies on one side, and diamonds and emeralds on the other. They are sophisticated but not too dressy and I wear them all the time. From £8,980; 109 Mount St, London W1 (020-7629 5550; delfinadelettrez.com).
The people I rely on for personal grooming and wellbeing are my hairdresser Boris Vitarella, who comes to my house – my hair is rather undisciplined so it’s much easier when someone else does it – and Maurice Choueka, my physiotherapist, trainer and masseur. Boris Vitarella, (+324-9937 4848; email@example.com). Maurice Choueka, 79 Rue des Archives, 75003 Paris (+331-4804 7000; firstname.lastname@example.org).
If I didn’t live in Brussels and Paris, I would live in London. I love it in an idealistic way, and it’s the museums that really make the difference. The National Gallery, with its Old Masters, is incredible. And I love the Englishness of the members’ clubs – you only find places such as the South Kensington Club there. National Gallery, Trafalgar Sq, London WC2 (020-7747 2885; nationalgallery.org.uk). South Kensington Club, 38-42 Harrington Rd, London SW7 (020-3006 6868; southkensingtonclub.com).
The last music I downloaded was Brad Stank’s Flirting in Space. He’s a young songwriter from Liverpool. My son Alex works at Universal Music and also has his own little music label, so he sends me recommendations all the time.
An indulgence I would never forgo is organic granola, which I eat every morning after some exotic fruit. It’s worth getting up for. I love the Super Granola by Eat Natural with oats, buckwheat, sunflower seeds and honey. £3.69; Waitrose, 169 King’s Rd, London SW3 (020-7351 2775; waitrose.com).
If I had to limit my shopping to one neighbourhood in one city, I’d chooseMayfair. Thomas Goode is the only place where I can find the tea strainers that I like. I love the jeweller Delfina Delettrez, as she is so different. Her work is connected to a surrealist vocabulary, and has a feminine sense of humour. It’s not about being expensive; it’s something you can wear every day. And Huntsman on Savile Row has nice presents for men – I recently bought a beautiful sweater for my father and ties for my husband there – and I like its 19th-century decor. Delfina Delettrez, 109 Mount St, London W1 (020-7629 5550; delfinadelettrez.com). Huntsman, 11 Savile Row, London W1 (020-7734 7441; huntsmansavilerow.com). Thomas Goode, 19 South Audley St, London W1 (020-7499 2823; thomasgoode.com).
If I weren’t doing what I do, I would work as a scriptwriter or director. I took a module in cinema when I was a student and nearly went down that path. Sergei Eisenstein, Josef von Sternberg and Stanley Kubrick are the great masters.
