Known for organising some of the toughest amateur cycling races in the world – through the Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees – Haute Route has now added the Rockies to its roster of challenges. The seven-day event begins in Boulder on June 24 2017, covers 875km through canyons and forest and, having climbed over 16,000m, finishes in Colorado Springs. Entry costs €2,200, which can be redeemed by entrants who reach pre-set fundraising targets for Team Type 1 Foundation, a charity fighting to improve diabetes care globally. The more money raised, the greater the incentives – among them a training programme, top-of-the-range cycles and luxury accommodation along the route. Over the past two years, these donations have raised more than €200,000 to provide insulin and glucose monitors for children with Type 1 diabetes in the developing world.
