I’ve never liked “polite” jewellery – pearl necklaces, for example – so my recent discovery of Hannah Martin’s edgy, rock and roll jewellery was a magic moment. Huge, spiky, gem-studded cocktail rings, gold bracelets with spur-like links and dagger-like pendants are perfect jeans-and-leather jacket companions, in my opinion.

I spotted Hannah’s modern take on a traditional gent’s signet ring at Dover Street Market, and Matches sells her big neck-pieces, but you can also visit her Clerkenwell workshop by appointment if you’re after a specially-made piece. Prices range from £200 to £6,000 (Rock’n’Roll bracelet in 18ct yellow gold, pictured, £2,750). Nor am I her only fan. She told me that Agyness Dean, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Rufus Wainwright, Rupert Everett, Christopher Bailey and Vivienne Westwood have snapped up her designs too.
