A winter hat with a chic, 1920s vibe

I love a neat, head-hugging hat in winter, so when I spotted this little felt cloche with its toning corsage at a recent studio sale, I bought it without hesitation. And I have barely ventured outside without it since.

Cleverly designed from flat patterned pieces constructed to form an architectural three-dimensional silhouette incorporating a soft fold-back brim, it is designed to sit across the forehead and come down neatly over the ears (an important factor for crop-haired folk such as myself). This makes it fantastically snug, but because the cloche is made from the finest wool felt, it is still light enough to wear in trains and shops and thus avoid the risk of exposing your hat hair in public.

The cloche’s maker, Edie Obilaso, says she was inspired by Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli, which explains her creation’s super-chic, 1920s vibe. An era which I think is due a major revival.

I bought the cloche from Orizu in Airforce Bleu (£49, including two corsages), but other hand-dyed shades are also available.
