Lucia van der Post
Once upon a time it was almost impossible to buy swimwear in January, but these days there are boutiques such as Heidi Klein which specialise in holiday gear all year round – a great boon to the “head-to-the-Caribbean-in-January-and-Feburary” set. But there are also online boutiques which happily never close. Clickini.com, an online seller of beachwear, reports that December is in fact its third busiest month of the year.
Clickini.com has gathered together a whole collection of chic designer holiday wear and I think the best way to use it is to check out the individual designers. One I like particularly is Anya Hindmarch, who has come up with some attractive and useful cover-ups, rather like loose short kaftans, for about £85 each (first picture). There’s also Lotty B from Mustique who I’ve written about before and whose beautiful silk kaftans are gossamer-fine and come in heavenly prints and colours at prices starting at about £35.
Dianora Salviati has some gorgeous pareos all tucked up in a useful beach bag for £276 (second picture), and there are chic Panama hats from Ecuo Andino starting at £55 (third picture). It’s not so hot for one-piece bathing suits (my preferred choice these days), but if you’ve the body for a bikini, there’s loads of choice. Meanwhile anybody heading for the Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa in Mauritius will find that from January 24 it has a pop-up Clickini store right there.
