I’m beginning this week feeling very excited (and a little tired) having just arrived back last night from a 48-hour trip to New York meeting potential stockists. I flew out on Saturday with my assistant Mimi and from the moment we touched down we hardly stopped for a second. Luckily, in between meetings, frantic taxi rides and very late suppers, we were able to relax in the Pierre hotel. I always try to book a room there when I visit New York as it’s just so comfortable and efficiently run and it has a lovely view of Central Park. The city is beautiful at this time of year, very cold and buzzy and the store windows all look so inviting – now I’m really starting to feel Christmassy.
Back at my Sloane Square store today and there’s just so much to do in the next month. I begin the morning by sending out my new brochure to customers. This is an annual tradition – each year my team and I get together to design a brochure of my latest designs that we send out to clients before Christmas. This year, my customers can also flick through the brochure on my website. It’s always so exciting when they finally arrive; I’ve chosen a wonderful wintry blue colour with silver for the front cover, which I am so pleased with. I’m really excited by some of my new pieces and hope that my clients will be too. I’ve added a show-stopping white gold, diamond and gemstone necklace to my very popular Flowers and Bows collection. I think it’s just beautiful so I’ve placed it near the start of the brochure, and hope it’s going to be a big hit before Christmas.
At 1pm I eat lunch with my team. There are five of us who work in the store together: Mimi, Emma, Jo, Annabel and myself. We pick up delicious soups and risottos daily from Finn’s on Chelsea Green and share them around the table in the store. It’s a great chance to catch up on each other’s news as we are so busy in this month before Christmas that sometimes we hardly have a chance to talk.
The afternoon flies past with the store full of customers beginning their Christmas shopping, we close at 6pm and I hurry home to change before joining friends at the ballet in Covent Garden. I’m a passionate ballet fan and it’s one of my favourite ways to spend an evening. Marianela Nuñez and Thiago Soares were enchanting together as Princess Aurora and her Prince. I just cannot see Sleeping Beauty enough, and I love the inspiration the costume colours give me for all my stone combinations.
