The Royal Meeting at Ascot always brings to mind a Cecil Beaton milieu of gentility and extravagant chapeaux. But this year, from June 14 to 18, things will be a little bit edgier and more offbeat.
Each season the British Fashion Council presents a daily fashion show in the Bessborough Restaurant, showcasing the most established and celebrated British houses. This year, rock’n’roll designer and 2011 British Fashion Council’s Fashion Forward award winner Todd Lynn – well known for dressing U2 and Courtney Love – joins Stephen Jones, Vivienne Westwood and Julien Macdonald on the catwalk.
The daily catwalk show will, along with a five-course lunch, champagne reception and afternoon tea with strawberries and cream, make for a captivating diversion from all things equestrian. Lynn’s futurist-leaning leather and fur for men and women has enchanted the fashion press for several seasons. He’s been a household name in his native Canada for some time – so much so that he provided the live running fashion commentary for the royal wedding for Canadian TV. The royal newlyweds haven’t yet said if they will be Ascot-bound this summer, but that would make for some truly stylish synchronicity.
