The fashionably informed may already be aware that Harvey Nichols and Dress for Success – a non-profit that provides professional attire, support and career development to disadvantaged women living in Britain – have been teaming up over the past four years to create various fundraising events, from in-store drop-off spots for unwanted clothes to discount vouchers in exchange for donations.

But this year, rather more hushed up – and reserved only for the most revered of the fashion deity – is a special after-hours shopping evening on Tuesday October 5. And 12 How To Spend It readers and their companions have the chance to be on the guest list (see below for details).

Visitors will be offered champagne and canapés as they survey the new autumn/winter stock (pictured: Alexander McQueen bag, £390), and 10 per cent of the evening’s sales will be donated to the Dress for Success cause. And should you be a little peckish prior to this shopping soirée, it’s worth noting that the 10 per cent donation also applies to any bills racked up at Jonas Karlsson’s culinary hotspot, Fifth Floor Restaurant, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
