The pursuit of the rare, the unique and the exceptional drives crowds to Masterpiece – London’s week-long fine- and decorative-art fair set in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. So it’s fitting that this year’s opening party on Thursday June 30, in support of cancer charity CLIC Sargent, is following suit.

As well as a preview of the works of art on display at Masterpiece (which showcases everything from fine wine to rare Ferraris), guests at Masterpiece’s Midsummer Party will be able to take part in an auction of unique lots, including a one-off white gold and diamond spinner ring (first picture), worth £8,000, by Solange Azagury-Partridge, a tennis skirt and a tennis racquet signed by Wimbledon champions Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer respectively, a flight in a Spitfire fighter plane (one of only three original two-seaters in existence; second picture) and a limited-edition Piaget Polo Fortyfive watch (third picture).

The night aims to raise at least £300,000 to fund CLIC Sargent’s clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer. Tickets are £150 each.
