Since its launch in 2010, luxury shoe brand Del Rio London has supplied boutiques in Europe, the Middle East and Japan, but founder Linda Del Rio Jansson’s latest focus is Africa. Keen to imbue her brand with philanthropic as well as fashionable values, she is collaborating with Tree Talk, one of the largest conservation charities in east Africa, to plant a tree in Uganda for every pair of shoes sold.

Tree Talk has partnered with groups such as the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and The World Food Program, and, since its launch in 2002, has grown more than 6m trees. Communities are already reaping the benefits – using the trees to provide shelter, or harvesting the wood to pay schoolteachers’ wages and create much-needed building materials.
