Ordering footwear online has never appealed to me. Surely it’s the one thing you really need to try on before buying? Then something happened that changed my mind.
Before Christmas, my sister asked for a replacement pair of sheepskin boot-style slippers similar to ones she’d bought from Peter Jones years ago. She said they were blissfully comfortable and beautifully made by a Swedish company called Wassbring. When I discovered that Peter Jones no longer sells them, I tried without success to find another stockist (though I learnt subsequently that they are stocked in several other stores).
I therefore searched for “Wassbring” online and found that its products now come under the name of Shepherd in the UK. And when I typed in “Shepherd slippers”, up came a link to Brandosa, an online footwear store that offers more than 15,000 designs from 358 brands, including Jil Sander, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Missoni, Diesel, Camper, Timberland, G-Star Raw and Moschino Kids. Among the styles for men, children and women are high heels, ballerinas, bridal shoes, ankle boots, trainers, knee-boots and wellies.
Shepherd makes a big range of sheepskin slippers and it was tricky pinning down the exact style my sister wanted. However, my emailed queries to Brandosa’s customer services were answered promptly and, with their help, I found the right pair. I was anxious about choosing the correct size, but was told the normal 30-day return period was extended to the end of January for Christmas purchases. What’s more, they offered free postage and free returns.
The slippers (pictured), which cost £55, arrived in the post four days after I placed my online order. As soon as I opened the box I knew my sister would love them. They were greeted with a big smile on Christmas Day.
