Old-fashioned snail mail has an allure that email can’t match, and the best – and the handiest – way to send off a few words, a thank-you note or a billet-doux is to use a postcard. Last year Penguin had the splendid idea of producing a box filled with 100 postcards, each featuring one of its best-known, best-loved authors, including Hunter S Thompson, Dorothy Parker, George Orwell and John Le Carré.
