Luxurious linens favoured by the famous

Buying bed linen online is something of a leap of faith, so it’s always best to buy from a trusted brand – and brands don’t come much more trusted than Pratesi. Its first shop opened in Italy in the 1920s, and this is the bedding brand of choice for discerning celebrities from Elizabeth Taylor (who was so enamoured of their linens that she insisted on custom-made Pratesi sheets in every hotel bedroom she slept in), Madonna and Stella McCartney.

It is perfectly possible to buy these wondrous bedclothes in actual bricks-and-mortar stores but, in the UK, the new, and very lovely, 2.0 collection is only available online. I spent a long time perusing the range and, while I would be delighted to sleep in the entire collection, these were my particular favourites: 900 Jacquard (£800 for a queen-size duvet cover, flat sheet and two pillowcases) because it is chic and simple; Bastoncini (£1,100 for set, as before) because it’s made of something called Angel Skin Egyptian cotton; and Infinito (£1,100 for a set, as before) because it is made from 100 per cent linen that somehow doesn’t require ironing. No doubt your housekeeper will be delighted.
