A designer handbag with impeccable eco credentials is the thinking fashionista’s Holy Grail. And with the début of its sustainable – and very stylish – limited-edition version of its iconic Muse Two bag, Yves Saint Laurent has reached it. Part of the Paris fashion house’s Edition New Vintage collection – an annual capsule edit of ready-to-wear designs made from unused YSL archive fabrics – the Muse Two is made from a unique textile compound of fair-trade cotton and recycled plastic bags.
To add to its feel-good factor, the handbag also has a charitable impact. The artisanal handwork used to produce it comes courtesy of women of the Gafreh Association, a social enterprise that provides employment opportunities in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Priced at £1,130, just 60 bags are available at YSL flagship stores in Sloane Street and Bond Street in London from mid-May.
