Muji has managed to simplify – beautifully – the matter of luggage. If you need a new suitcase and don’t feel like subjecting anything too precious to the battering that air travel involves, look no further than its well thought-through collection.

All in plain black, choose from three that are small enough to be carried on to the plane: a trolley bag (£89), a small trolley suitcase (£55), and a large trolley suitcase (second picture, £65). There’s also the X-large trolley suitcase (first picture, £89) which has splendidly flexible wheels that rotate through 360 degrees, and which needs to go in the hold. There’s a series of co-ordinating bags and holdalls to complement the cases.
