A return to classic elegance for Dunhill watches

A fine watch makes a splendid present for a man. There are, after all, few ways in which he can add a bit of adornment to his person without getting funny looks down the pub, but a watch is certainly one of them. Those who are looking for something seriously classy should take a look at Dunhill’s latest collection, which is coming into the shops now. Dunhill has rethought its watch designs and, according to Christopher Colfer, the CEO of Alfred Dunhill, it decided on “a return to the classic elegance of Dunhill’s early years”.

The result is a collection of just three watches which fall into that category of being truly classy and yet relatively affordable. The Facet watch (left in picture) is a slim oblong with a touch of art deco. It comes in stainless steel (£3,000) or pink gold (£5,500) and with a black or chocolate alligator strap. The Classic (right in picture), the one I like the best for its beautiful simplicity, has a round face and comes in stainless steel (£3,200) or pink gold (£5,100) with an alligator or pink gold strap. Finally, there’s the Moonphase, a sportier number which has a stainless steel case covered with a new technical material known as PVD and a black rubberised leather strap (£3,900).

Those interested in the innards need to know that Dunhill teamed up with the esteemed Jaeger-LeCoultre for all the movements. It’s a great collection that could solve many a gift-giving dilemma.
