With its quirky take on homewares and accessories, Generate Design has quickly gained a reputation as a go-to site for design-led ideas. Now the New York-based company has launched a Europe-specific site, with products for every room plus personal accessories. And, in tune with current demands for two-way e-conversations, visitors can comment on the designs, vote for favourites and suggest new products to feature.
Stylish yet practical furniture includes the Quad shelving unit (first picture, €596) by Nauris Kalinauskas with multisized shelves for books, DVDs and CDs, while the same designer’s Imperial rug (€64) is an intriguing jigsaw puzzle of 10 segments to arrange any way you wish. Another engaging home accessory is Carlo and Benedetta Tamborini’s Cotton Clock (€432) – a wall clock with a removable, intricately detailed cotton face.
A good selection of unusual lighting includes Linas Kutavicius’ Light Pillow (second picture, €169). With its cotton-covered metal frame, this pillow-shaped lamp can be wall-hung, placed on the floor or on the bed. Drama, meanwhile, comes in the multilayered shape of Tord Boontje’s Icarus pendant light shade (€71), made from extruded polyester.
Design collectors should check out the site’s Limited Edition section where one-offs and pieces produced in very limited runs include Reddish Studio’s Louis 900 table lamp, made from antique furniture legs of various periods and origins (fourth picture, price on request), and Sotirios Papadopoulos’ Full Moon cabinet with its luminous, photo-realistic moon image which comes with an original soundtrack CD (price on request).
Equally tempting are fun personal accessories such as the bright, neoprene My Document laptop case (third picture, €38), the Icon watch (€75) inspired by old-style computer screen icons, and the handmade Hidden Diamond gold ring (€368) with its interior-set gem, designed by artists Tobias Wong and Philipp Mohr.
