In the category of “one wonders what took them so long” come scented long candles. Prejudices, hitherto, have run in favour of the round and squat. Enter Miller Harris with some lovely creamy long candles, just lightly washed with its Bois Fumé fragrance. They smell faintly of smoky birch and black tobacco, with undertones of nutmeg and cumin.
Made for Miller Harris by one of the oldest candle-making houses in Spain, the one that provides them for the Catholic church, they are made entirely of natural wax. A pack of six, measuring seven inches high, is £30.
