This year the designer Christmas tree has come into its own. Real is not the only way to go. Take a look at the forest of more than 300 white-painted hand-made wooden trees (pictured) at The Conran Shop, each made from recycled wood.
Made in collaboration with the Hastings & Bexhill Wood Recycling Project, they come in all shapes and sizes, from 53cm to 3m high. Half of the proceeds from the sale of the trees will go to the recycling project, which gives training to the unemployed. In the same vein is a wreath (£39) made by the Hastings & Bexhill project from recycled wood; there are also toy animals (£3.95) made from non-recycled wood.
The trees are rough, but that’s part of their charm. They look especially good grouped together – like a magic forest. Prices range from £19 to £195. They will be available to purchase from The Conran Shop from December 20, but they can also be ordered direct from www.recyclingwood.org.uk.
