A pop-up shop with Finnish festive flair

Kicking off this week at Finnish artist Klaus Haapaniemi’s east-London studio is a series of quarterly pop-up shops (with further dates next year in March, June and September), hosted in collaboration with designer Mia Wallenius, his life and business partner. Their debut offering is full to bursting with original festive inspiration for those in search of charmingly unusual cards, gifts and decorations.

The shop glows with the rich colours and imagery of Scandinavian folklore. Birds, mammals, insects and flowers feature in the gloriously intricate designs on Haapaniemi’s textiles, including gorgeous scatter cushions (from £60), throws and bedspreads (£395), bolster cushions (£95), floor cushions (£195) and magnificent, hand-tufted rugs (£3,800). Look out for the silk Black Hare and Fox cushions (first picture, £79 each) that are exclusive editions created for the December pop-up.

Glamorous silk scarves (£110) with elegant spider or racing rabbit designs make delightful gifts, and there are also stocking fillers, such as geometric and floral-patterned Fiskars scissors (second picture, from £15), exclusively available here. Iittala’s Haapaniemi-decorated ceramic tableware, such as the Korento bowl (£17.50), mug (£16.50), flat plate (from £18) – all in third picture – and oval plate (£49), have a stylish sense of fun that lasts beyond the season’s festivities. Alongside beautifully illustrated cards (£8) and decorations, including handmade paper snowflakes (£14), are limited-edition Haapaniemi prints, among them a special Christmas one, Noel Russo (£105, unframed).
