Keeping up appearances while the hairdresser’s away

The conditioner that restored the warmth to faded highlights

I’ve had two compliments about my hair colour in the past week and both took me by surprise because I’m actually waiting for my colourist to return from summer holiday so that I can get my highlights sorted. Rather like the weather in London at the moment, they’ve become dull and washed out.

I’ve been using Aveda shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair for the past year so headed for the Aveda counter at Harrods where I’ve always found the assistants extremely well informed. I came away with Camomile Color Conditioner (£18.50 for 250ml), a conditioning colour enhancer that’s safe to use on colour-treated hair. The instructions recommend it be left on for two to five minutes, or longer for deeper colour and conditioning.

Never one to do things by halves, I wrapped my head in a plastic shower cap, blasted it with a hot hairdryer, then wrapped my head in a towel for 15 minutes. It’s given my faded highlights the buttery warmth they were missing. I’m even thinking of postponing my appointment with my hairdresser, to give my highlights a rest from strong chemicals.

There’s a matching shampoo and four other colour enhancers in the range: Blue Malva for blonde or grey hair; Clove for brown shades; Madder Root for warm and red shades; and Black Malva for dark hair.
