Spa Junkie has returned to the HB Health clinic in London for more treatment after burning her face with hot soup from a blender.
TWO WEEKS LATER: TREATMENT TWO
It’s a fortnight since the first session and, despite my continued reluctance to endorse this clinic, my skin looks good. The white burn patches are now something of the past; the light scarring on my chin from years of ignoring my mother’s advice – “Don’t squeeze it!” – is much improved.
Today I’ve booked the same again but am feeling a bit experimental, so Umay is adding an extra treatment called Dermaroller. It’s a hand-held skin roller which has 192 razor-sharp, surgical steel micro-needles which are, I’m told, able to part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. The pores return to a normal state after about an hour, but during that period your skin is able to absorb the active ingredients much more efficiently. She starts working on the lines around my eyes. It’s pretty painful and I strongly recommend you use numbing cream, especially if you are doing the eye area.
TWO WEEKS AFTER THAT: TREATMENT THREE
It’s time for the daddy of the three treatments: the Mesolift. Since I’m now virtually a complete advocate of, and walking billboard for, the salon, I arrive early and quite excitedly for the face numbing. “This is going to hurt,” says Umay as she sits me up and marks out the areas. “We are injecting pure hyaluronic acid, vitamins and minerals into the skin; it’s thicker, and we are going deeper.”
A small voice deep inside me speaks up: remind me why I am doing this again? She holds my hand and tells me once more that it’s safe, it’s natural it’s not Botox, and the effects will be exactly what we had discussed: “Tightening your jaw line, plumping up the sunken areas around your nose, reducing the appearance of the deep laugh lines and improving your general appearance and making you look younger.”
THE BOTTOM LINE
Despite my scepticism going in, I’ve no choice but to admit: the results are impressive. From the moment I walk out, there’s a visible difference: I look fresher, my skin tone is smooth and my jaw line taut. And at only marginally more, cost-wise, than some of the more traditional, old-school facials on the market, you can sign me up for this next generation of medi-facials; I’m officially a believer.
