If you have a penchant for superb Italian cuisine, the place to head for on October 18 is London, where six of the country’s top chefs will create an exclusive Gala Dinner for Identità London 2011 at the chic Town Hall Hotel & Apartments in Shoreditch.

During the day, Identità London is aimed more at the catering trade and professionals, and this is the first time that its Gala Dinner has been open to the public. It aspires to promote contemporary Italian gastronomy and artisanal produce, which shouldn’t be a problem bearing in mind the talents of the chosen chefs, three of whom feature in the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

London-based Nuno Mendes, of Bethnal Green’s wildly popular restaurant Viajante, plays host – apparently with a surprise up his sleeve – to Massimo Bottura (of Osteria Francescana in Modena), Davide Scabin (of Combal.Zero in Rivoli, near Turin), Paolo Lopriore (Il Canto in Siena), Davide Oldani (D’O Restaurant in Cornaredo, near Milan), Antonino Cannavacciuolo (of Villa Crespi in Piedmont) and Ciccio Sultano (of Ristorante Duomo in Ragusa, Sicily). The six-course dinner with perfectly matched Italian wines will feature some of their signature dishes.

You’ll need to move fast if you want to join the feast: just 60 tickets (£200 each) are available (in total, about 100 people will be dining). As the chefs are travelling in from different regions of Italy, it’s an experience that’s not likely to be repeated. I say ditch the pre-Christmas diet and plump for a treat for the tastebuds.
