It looks like an extremely smart toolbox – but its contents are far removed from workaday spanners and screwdrivers. The very limited-edition Ultimate Collection Box is, in fact, an elegant, Pablo Reinoso-designed container that’s home to six bottles of the very best wines from the Moët Hennessy Wine Division Estates & Wines.
These half-dozen “icon wines” are reserve bottlings, produced in small quantities and often tricky to find – which explains the £500 price tag. Taking the oenophile on a dream taste tour, or quite simply broadening the drinker’s horizons, the wines in the collection are: the smoothly elegant Australian Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon; the rich, chocolatey and dark-fruit-flavoured Numanthia Termanthia from Toro in Spain; Argentina’s Cheval des Andes and Terrazas de los Andes Afincado Malbec; Newton The Puzzle from Napa Valley; and Cloudy Bay’s Te Koko, aged for three years before release.
At the time of writing, Harrods (the exclusive stockist in the UK) had fewer than 10 Ultimate Collection Boxes in store (though it might be possible to place an order for one). I wouldn’t keep it in the garage with the other toolboxes – it’s arguably the ultimate in carryouts.
