Thailand is a timely choice for those seeking to decompress in warmer climes. The 54 villas and pavilions at Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (pictured; www.phulaybeach.com; doubles from about £500), are strung along a private beach adjacent to the Hat Nopparat Thara national park in Krabi.

This first of Ritz-Carlton’s new ultra-luxe Reserve resorts promises to capitalise on the privacy of its pristine location while not missing a beat on the design front, with contemporary Thai art lining the walls and verandas outsizing the indoor spaces.
