Everyone knows what a Downward Dog is in Kerala, which has recently seen the opening of the new Purespa at Purity (www.malabarescapes.com; from €186), a lakeside boutique hotel in the backwaters. Expect neither the grubby oil used at so many so-called luxury Ayurvedic establishments in India, nor the now ubiquitous pastiche version of this ancient form of holistic medicine. Treading the line between the two, Purespa will strive to be authentic. Its traditional detox demands a full 14 days, but guests can opt for a “continuous treatment” starting at Purity and finishing, truly, in Serenity, Malabar’s sister property.
