Luang Prabang in Laos is a place that has recovered well from its past. Buoyed by French expat investment and enterprising NGOs, this former royal outcrop continues to evolve as Indochina’s classiest getaway. Previously, I thought the best bang for your buck was to be had at The Bellerive, but now comes the 24-room Kiridara (www.kiridara.com), where the services are more complete – pool, spa, yoga pavilion – and there’s an attractive opening room rate of $120.
