Creating a stir in the archipelago of La Maddalena off north-east Sardinia is La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club (www.lamaddalenahyc.com; from €200). The hotel has the touch of fashion; Kenzo’s Antonio Marras contributed to the interiors, with furniture by Zaha Hadid and William Sawaya (Sawaya&Moroni pulled off Singapore’s super-mod Klapsons hotel).

It’s riding on the buzz of Porto Arsenale Marina, which already has 100 megayacht berths, with 600 to come for 2012. Expect a few Wally gigayachts to line the viewshed, for this is where the likes of Mr Abramovich might moor. Or Air, the new £100m, 81m-long, €750,000-a-week boat – to charter from the International Yacht Register (www.iyr.net). Or Told U So, a 45m Benetti Vision owned by Kirk Lazarus, the entrepreneur behind Molori Private Retreats (www.molori.co.za) and Molori Design. This summer, his vision takes to the Med – a sleek motoryacht, with strong Missoni notes in the interior, planned by Molori Design and chartering from its Monaco mooring (from €225,000 per week.
