A clutch of noteworthy villas in and around the Mediterranean are on the market just in time for late-season bookings: they include the Villa Quinta do Esperanca (www.scottdunn.com; £10,270 per week full board). A 30-minute drive from Faro airport in Portugal, this two-acre property (complete with floodlit tennis court) sleeps 16 in a traditional villa and sweet guest cottage and comes staffed with a chef and on-call nannies.

And in Ibiza, Casa Vadella (pictured; www.sjvillas.co.uk; £6,018 per week for six) has all bright white contemporary interiors, multilevel terraces, and a saline infinity pool that wraps around the house. All that’s missing is a DJ, of which there’s no shortage on the island.
