Discovering seaside bliss in Greece and France

If European seaside idylls top your wish list, western Greece is an excellent place to start – specifically at Porto Zante Villas (www.portozante.com; from €480) on the island of Zakynthos. Itself fresh from a makeover, the resort offers lovely sandy beaches, first-rate alfresco dining (pictured) and capacious accommodations – the smallest one-bedroom villas clock in at almost 800sq ft.

And on Ile de Ré, the jewel of France’s Atlantic coast, the Hôtel de Toiras is débuting a new sister property in the town of Saint-Martin-de-Ré. The nine-room Villa Clarisse (www.villa-clarisse.com; from €175) has interiors designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon and, in the hotel’s charming garden, a swimming pool and bijou two-room spa and hammam. Book now: it’s bound to be as popular as its much-loved sibling.
