Cipriani is a moniker that’s singularly associated with Venice; but it’s actually 6,800 miles away, in Beverly Hills, that the youngest Cipriani generation, brothers Ignazio and Maggio, are making a mark.

Mr C Beverly Hills (www.mrchotels.com; from $429), on Beverwil Drive (at the buzzing, rather than the gilded, end of town), is all boudoir glamour: white-leather chesterfields and nickel-plate tables, bevelled-glass wet bars and indulgent baths. Book one of the 12 signature suites for views to the Hollywood Hills.

While in town, don’t miss Tim Burton, a retrospective of the iconoclastic filmmaker’s work opening on the 29th at LACMA (www.lacma.org; until October 31), with more than 700 drawings, film clips, puppets, costumes and ephemera from Burton’s own personal files.
