Francesca Bortolotto Possati is a venerated figure in Venice. Owner of Bauer Hotels, director of the board of the Save Venice Foundation and incumbent style arbitrix, her portfolio has just expanded to include Villa F (pictured; www.bauerhotels.com; from €900), a former pensione on Giudecca island, a couple of doors down from her Bauer Il Palladio Hotel & Spa (from €350).

Once patronised by the likes of the poet D’Annunzio and Eleonora Duse, it has now been converted into 11 loft-like flats available from four days to several months. Austere and chicly contemporary, the fully serviced apartments share a lovely winter garden and meditation pool. Guests have access to Il Palladio’s electro-solar-powered boat, BMare, for transfers to San Marco.
