A striking new hotel opens in the heart of Stockholm

Local design and craftsmanship are practically a religion in Stockholm – witness its increasingly buzzy Design Week (www.stockholmdesignweek.com), which runs next month from the 7th to the 13th. Witness also the new Nobis Hotel (www.nobishotel.se and www.designhotels.com; from £300); two 19th-century buildings renovated, redesigned and furnished by venerated local architect-designers Claesson Koivisto Rune.

The Nobis backers are the team behind the city’s elegant Operakällaren restaurant and its breezily chic Hotel J, which bodes well for this new venture’s success – as does its dead-central location on the Norrmalmstorg in Östermalm.
