In London, a Mexico moment is happening at Tate Modern (www.tate.org.uk), where Gabriel Orozco, one of that country’s most compelling talents, is enjoying a retrospective, starting on January 19 and featuring more than 80 of his sculptures, paintings and photographs. (Second picture: Orozco’s La DS, 1993.)

On January 31, an equally compelling artist – this one, however, hailing from the UK culinary world – christens his first London venture. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (pictured) at the Mandarin-Oriental Hyde Park (www.mandarinoriental.com/london) will showcase the multistarred, technically virtuosic Fat Duck chef’s talents in an Adam D Tihany-designed dining room whose double-height windows look onto one of London’s most postcard-perfect views (the one straight into the kitchen through the floor-to-ceiling glass wall probably won’t be bad either).
