A new hotel is set to change the face of London’s South Bank

Business and leisure travellers in and out of London this autumn will be pleased to learn of a new hotel with easy access to the city’s main air-transport facilities, but still close enough to town to enjoy its attractions. Adjacent to the London Heliport at Battersea, Hotel Verta (www.vonessenhotels.com; from £205) is positioning itself to change the face of the South Bank.

The design of the hotel’s 70 rooms and 14 suites is attractive, if unassuming; the appeal is more about the wide swathe of business-to-pleasure amenities on offer, from free luxury shuttles to both Clapham Junction and Sloane Square (and an on-demand service to the heliport), to the subterranean spa operated by cult Parisian aesthetic clinic Anne Sémonin.
