A stunningly upgraded lodge in New Zealand’s adrenaline capital

Those for whom watching the world trundle by is rather too much of a spectator-sport vacation should make for New Zealand. In the adrenaline capital of Queenstown, Matakauri Lodge (www.matakaurilodge.com; from $840) will later this month unveil a stunning upgrade courtesy of some first-rate NZ talent: owers Julian and Josie Robinson are the duo behind Kauri Cliffs and The Farm at Cape Kidnappers (whence also came chef Dale Gartland – via a stint at Gidleigh Park in Devon), while designer Virginia Fisher has Huka Lodge to her name. It equals bungee jumps and white-water rafting by day, and Aoraki salmon with crayfish bisque and top-shelf pinot noir in a double-height dining room come evening.
