In Berlin, the redevelopment of Museum Island takes another step towards completion when the Neues Museum (www.smb.museum) opens on October 16 after a €200m redesign by British architect David Chipperfield. Its collection focuses on classical and Egyptian antiquities, the most celebrated of which is the c3,300-year-old bust of Nefertiti (pictured), which remains an object of extraordinary beauty despite recent claims that it may be a fake.
