There are noteworthy developments around that glittering epicentre of the summer yachting circuit, Sardinia, or more precisely, the island of Caprera off its north coast, which is now home to Porto Arsenale – La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club (; from €395). A 95-room, five-star hotel from the hospitality team behind Forte Village and Tuscany’s Castel Monastero, it has a purpose-built port that will be partially open this summer and is scheduled to be fully operational by spring 2011. Of its 600 berths, 300 are for craft of 100m or longer, and 100 are available now. Those mooring overnight will have access to the hotel and all its amenities, including its world-class wellness centre with four treatment rooms, a hammam, saunas and spa cuisine.
