Tel Aviv’s hotels – including the well-loved Montefiore in the district around fashionable Rothschild Boulevard – have a new competitor in town: the Alma Hotel & Lounge (; from $400). Its 15 rooms and suites occupy a listed 1925 building, and the recent conversion has resulted in a sultry mix of Oriental antiques and textiles with contemporary bursts of pop-fuelled colour. The restaurant, Alma Lounge (pictured), is from Yonatan Roshfeld, who is also behind the award-winning Tapas 1, Herbert Samuel and Yavne Montefiore.
