Nairobi now has a chic boutique hotel

Nairobi is home to a handful of big-name luxury chains, but it has hitherto been conspicuously lacking a chic boutique option. Now, though, it welcomes the arrival of Sankara Nairobi (www.sankara.com; from $339), a sleek, bespoke-service-touting 156-room hotel in central Westlands.

Sankara promises to tick a host of “first” boxes for Kenya’s capital: first full-service Angsana spa; first rooftop supper club; first proper wine bar (with 5,000 vintages on offer); and first, and largest, in-house collection of contemporary African art, with more than 200 works, mostly from Kenya and Tanzania.
