For simpler, more bohemian luxury, look to Jamaica, where Treasure Beach has long held a reputation for chic beach shacks and happy nights of local beer, grilled lobster and easy reggae.
Jakes (www.jakeshotel.com) – the beach hotel that first put this southern swath on the map – has just opened a new property, Seaweed, on Old Wharf. It comprises a four-bedroom (from £470) and a two-bedroom villa (from £280) on the same 1.5-acre plot – or guests can rent the whole property. For fans of Dougie’s rum cocktails, the bar is only a five-minute drive away.
