A new hotel and spa opens in a stylish Tuscan town

This is a good time to be plotting a Mediterranean seaside escape. In Tuscany, in the perennially stylish coastal redoubt of Forte dei Marmi, the Principe Hotel & Spa (www.principehotelfortedeimarmi.com; from €720) is to open in a few weeks, well in time for the 2010 season.

It boasts all the accoutrements that the captains of industry, titled dilettantes, and various other gilded classes who make up the town’s summer population will expect of it: indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a full-service thalassotherapy spa, resolutely contemporary décor, a rooftop restaurant whose chefs promise to turn out sashimi and cacciucco with equal aplomb – and, of course, a prime private stretch of Fort dei Marmi’s famous wide sandy beach.
