Tucked into a corner of Singapore in Chinatown’s chic Ann Siang Road, BooksActually has always been a favourite bookshop of my local friends, a tiny, airy, whitewashed warren of rooms packed with covetable titles and beautiful writing implements. So I was thrilled on a September visit to find that the owners had recently opened a sister shop, Polymath & Crust – specialising in gorgeously designed and packaged non-fiction titles and housed in a similarly tranquil, chic space right around the corner in Club Street.
Now I’ve just heard that this week, the two shops are merging into the bigger, brighter Polymath & Crust headquarters. So, voracious readers and collectors of all things book- and print-related, from first-edition Penguin paperbacks (display only) to hand-bound letterpress sketchbooks by their own-brand local printers Birds&Co (from $18-$30), plus every esoteric art tome known to metrosexual man, have a single, gorgeous address to make for next time they touch down in Singapore.
