Ellen von Unwerth’s teasing toast to a tipple

German photographer Ellen von Unwerth – who is celebrated for her erotic art-house chic and whose most recent UK show was at Chelsea’s Michael Hoppen Gallery over the summer – has created a limited-edition calendar for the premium vodka brand Snow Queen. Teeming with the artist’s trademark brazen sensuality, the calendars have just gone on sale for £150 each.

Under the guise of telling a contemporary fairy tale about the battle between wickedness and winsomeness, this oversized glossy work depicts a vampish brunette and tousled angelic blonde in sumptuously saucy costume, frolicking in icily baroque surroundings. Von Unwerth’s erotic femininity is resplendent, and complements the marque’s Snow Queen logo with verve. She initially found fame with her photographs of Claudia Schiffer and the style showcased here is instantly recognisable from the pages of numerous international publications, including Vogue, Vanity Fair, The Face, Arena and I-D, as well as on album covers such as Janet Jackson’s The Velvet Rope.

Behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the calendar can be seen on the Snow Queen website, alongside cocktail inspiration from London’s top mixologists. A Moonshine Collins (courtesy of Daniele Varigu of St Martin Lane’s Light Bar) or an Algonqueen (from The Blue Bar at The Berkeley’s John Higgins), mixed with the five-times-distilled organic artisanal vodka, might be just the way to toast the New Year in suitably chilled style.
